Make it Known That You Care - Tell your Vendors!
When you are looking for vendors, look for the ones who advertise that they do their best to cut waste. If you don’t see them promoting it, ask them! The more vendors that know this is something that couples want, the more they will gravitate to finding eco-friendly ways to run their businesses. Local vendors want your business, and they want to know what is important to you. We love supporting local shops, family owned companies and small businesses, especially when it helps the environment.
Paper
Wedding invitations, save the dates, and more can all be delivered digitally and will save you money on postage as well. Are you a stationery aficionado or worried that Aunt Mable won’t approve of an online invite? There is always the option to send traditional invites to those you know who will appreciate them, and send digital invites to others. If digital invitations aren't your style, you can lessen the environmental impact of your stationary by using recycled paper or seed paper instead. Floral
Many florists offer the option of donating your flowers for repurposing after your wedding. They will send them to local hospitals, hospice centers, and retirement homes. If your florist does not offer this service, we are happy to coordinate this with you. If you get married in a church, they may be able to use the flowers for altar flowers, funeral services or christenings. Typically, to prep your flowers for donation at the end of the evening, all you need are spare vases, or something to bundle the flowers together. These things can easily be found at your local thrift store. You can also specifically look for florists who reduce or don’t use floral foam in their arrangements, which cuts down on non-compostable waste.

Attire
There are now so many alternatives to buying a wedding gown or bridesmaids dresses! Resale shops can offer great bargains and online rentals such as Rent the Runway and Generation Tux mean that you can find trending styles. Also consider upcycling a gown used by a friend, or close family member. Not only will you be reducing your footprint, they can be really meaningful to wear. If upcycling the gown isn’t your style, maybe your “something borrowed” can be an accessory, like your veil or jewelry. It’s a win-win for the environment and your budget.
Favors
There are so many options for eco-friendly favors these days! You can give guests treats they can eat (always a favorite) or donate to a charity that is near and dear to your heart. Or, send them home with something they can watch grow. What's more eco-friendly than that?! Another thing guests love is when the favor is tied to something important to you; for Kim’s wedding, she gave the guests coffee from the cooperative in Guatemala that she visited on her honeymoon.
Table Settings
Using old china, vintage glassware and mix-matched flatware has become increasingly popular. Mixed patterns is the new matching; people love the eclectic look! You can find beautiful milk glass vases, gorgeous goblets, linen napkins, and even pretty teacups in resale shops, vintage shops, and estate sales. Once you are done with them, you can donate or sell, keeping a few place settings for yourself as a lovely memory of your wedding dinner.
